Urea Form, or Urea Formaldehyde Form, is a clear, colorless solution produced by dissolving formaldehyde gas in an aqueous urea solution ($60\%$ formalin and $25\%$ urea) under specific reaction conditions. In this process, polymerization between urea and formaldehyde does not occur; instead, a simple, preliminary chemical reaction takes place between the two substances to ensure the stable storage of formaldehyde.
The viscosity of this product is higher than that of formalin, and its acidity is lower than that of formalin. Due to its stability, high formaldehyde content, and high solids percentage, Urea Form is easily stored for extended periods. Furthermore, the low water content in this compound helps reduce transportation costs. Urea Form is an excellent substitute for formalin.
This material is stable at ambient temperature and does not require heating (for up to 6 months).
The main application of UFC is in improving the properties of fertilizers that are produced in tablet or granular form. Urea particles tend to agglomerate due to high interaction, and under normal conditions, the particles gather together, forming a layer commonly referred to as a “urea cake.” UFC is used to prevent this phenomenon.
In this process, UFC is added to and mixed with molten urea before the final shaping of the urea into granules and tablets. UFC increases the strength of the granules and prevents them from breaking down. It also causes the materials to be slowly released and absorbed into the soil, thereby extending the useful life of the fertilizer.
It is used in the production of urea-formaldehyde resins, wood adhesives for MDF and particleboard, and UF molding powder. It is also used in urea production units in petrochemical complexes to increase the mechanical strength and reduce the flammability of urea. This product is utilized by petrochemical units as an anti-caking agent in agricultural urea fertilizer, which reduces the rate of urea absorption into the soil. It is available in two grades: UFC 85% and UFC 65%.
It can be stored in a dry warehouse at a temperature of $25^\circ \text{C}$ for a period of one year.
